The Trustees have the honor of presenting awards to the following organizations and individuals that have demonstrated creative vision and exceptional achievement in furthering the goals of the New England Wild Flower Society to conserve native plants and their habitats:
The Conservation Award is presented to the Massachusetts Audubon Society for outstanding research, education and volunteer training in conservation and land protection, affecting people and places far beyond the Massachusetts border.
The Connecticut State Award is presented to Peter Picone for dedicated leadership promoting landscaping with native plants through lectures, publications and displays at Sessions Woods.
The Maine State Award is presented to Maureen Hoffman for tireless commitment to the promotion of biodiversity in Maine and to conservation of open land and habitats through work with numerous organizations as both volunteer and staff member.
The Massachusetts State Award is presented to David Foster for guiding the development of Harvard Forest from a small academic outpost to a major research site and for changing the way biologists interpret landscape patterns and ecological processes.
The New Hampshire State Award is presented to William F. Nichols,
ecologist and botanist dedicated to promoting conservation, biodiversity and stewardship of rare and endangered plants through inventories, research and evaluation of New Hampshire’s natural communities.
The Rhode Island State Award is presented to Kathy Barton for longtime contributions to knowledge of New England’s native plants through field trips, inventories, articles, conservation efforts and whimsical teaching.
The Vermont State Award is presented to Peg Tart for service to the Federated Garden Clubs, Inc., as both Regional and State Chair of Wildflowers, educating members and children about conserving the native flora of Vermont.
The Award for Outstanding Service to the Society is presented to Betty Porter for three decades of sharing enthusiasm and knowledge about the natural world with people of all ages at Garden in the Woods.
The Award for Outstanding Service to the Society is presented to George Hibben for years of exemplary volunteer service constructing beds and benches, propagating and potting plants, processing seed, and providing assistance at the Annual Plant Sale.
The Kathryn S. Taylor Award for Private Gardens is presented to Pamela Keating and Roger Blethen for the vision to create a garden as a showcase for native trees and plants, returning a portion of the Charles River to a more natural habitat. |
