Membership dues alone cannot fund the entire scope of our
work, which is increasing annually as more and more natural
areas are at risk of destruction. We must rely on donations
from our members – above and beyond membership dues – to support
our annual operations and new initiatives. These gifts support
a number of activities and allow us to:
- Expand our Plant Conservation
Volunteer Corps into its final two states, Maine and
Connecticut, and recruit and train an additional 200 volunteers
to survey, monitor, and manage New England’s threatened
native plants and their habitats throughout New England.
- Continue our five-year initiative, begun in 1999, to
write Research and Recovery Plans for 100 of New England’s
rarest plants, which will be used to protect endangered
plants and their habitats.
- Maintain Garden in the Woods,
New England’s largest native plant botanical garden. The
Garden displays 1,700 varieties of plants, including 200
rare and endangered species in the New England Garden
of Rare and Endangered Plants.
- Continue to remove invasive non-native plants from
natural areas throughout New England, which threaten to
overwhelm our native flora and change the very nature
of our unique environment.
