A small to medium-sized ornamental tree that prefers a shady spot with moist, rich, well-drained soil. The heart-shaped foliage is bronze-colored when it emerges, and slowly turns to dark green and finally to chartreuse in the fall. Its flowers are small, rosy-colored and appear before the tree comes into leaf.
