Organizations

APGA - American Public Gardens Association (APGA). Formerly the American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta (AABGA).

CPC - The Center for Plant Conservation (CPC) is a national coalition dedicated to conserving and restoring the rare native plants of the United States. Participating institutions maintain the center's national collection of endangered plants.

ELA - The Ecological Landscaping Association (ELA) is a nonprofit organization committed to educating professionals and the public about ecological landscaping.

Endangered Species Program - U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) Endangered Species Program.

MITS - The Museum Institue for Teaching Science (MITS) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the teaching science, technology, engineering, and mathematics at the K-8 levels.

Mass Audubon - The Massachusetts Audubon Society is the largest conservation organization in New England.

NARGS - The North American Rock Garden Society (NARGS).

Native Plant Societies - A list of US and Canadian native plant societies compiled by NEWFS Librarian Mary Walker.

PCA - Plant Conservation Alliance (PCA), from the National Park Service. Formerly the Native Plant Conservation Initiative (NPCI).

UMassGreenInfo.org - developed by UMass Extensions Landscape, Nursery and Urban Forestry program.

Heritage Programs

Heritage programs are small government programs that work to preserve their states' native biological diversity through inventory, research, environmental review, habitat protection, and data management. Heritage programs maintain rare species lists, natural community information, rare plant fact sheets, and various other reference materials.

Connecticut - Connecticut Department of Enironmental Protection, Natural Diversity Data Base.

Maine - Maine Natural Areas Program (MNAP).

Massachusetts - Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program (NHESP).

New Hampshire - New Hampshire Natural Heritage Bureau.

Vermont - Vermont Nongame & Natural Heritage Program.

Gardens & Sanctuaries

Garden in the Woods - The botanic garden and headquarters of the New England Wild Flower Society.

The Fells - John Hay National Wildlife Refuge, an Historic estate and gardens on Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire.

Norcross Wildlife Sanctuary - Six thousand acres of wooded hills, lakes and streams in Monson, Massachusetts.

Tower Hill Botanic Garden - 132 acres in Boylston, Massachusetts.

ISSG - The Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG) aims to reduce threats to natural ecosystems and the native species they contain by increasing awareness of invasive alien species, and of ways to prevent, control or eradicate them.

Orion Magazine - An environmental and literary magazine published by The Orion Society and the Myrin Institute. Both are based in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.

The Face by Bill DanRock on, Rock ON! - Featuring the work of San Francisco based balanced-rock sculptor Bill Dan. The purpose of the New England Wild Flower Society Links pages is to list sources for regional and national plant conservation, environmental and horticultural information and resources that may be of interest to our visitors. Nonprofit and public organizations related to these topics are the primary sources listed. Selected community, cultural, arts, and media sources, primarily from New England, may also be listed, particularly if they contain information and resources related to the Society's mission.

Links and reciprocal links are chosen on a case-by-case basis with the Society's mission in view. In general, NEWFS does not link to for-profit, political, or personal sites.
